Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month, where AAFB joins Feeding America, food banks and anti-hunger advocates and organizations everywhere to take action to fight domestic hunger!  This year, one of the Hunger Action Month goals is to have over 1 million people view one of these videos to help spread awareness of the hunger issue:

The Hunger Action Month website also features a specialized 30 Ways in 30 Days event calendar for each Feeding America food bank.  Take a moment to check out Hunger Action Month 30 Ways in 30 Days events and activities at these food banks:

Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona
St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance
United Food Bank
Yuma Community Food Bank

There are also Hunger Action Month activities that benefit AAFB!  Here is just a sampling of events you can get involved in:
  • As part of their Mahalo Mondays program, Hula’s Modern Tiki is donating 10% of their gross proceeds to AAFB every Monday in September! Come out and support AAFB, starting on Labor Day Monday, September 5, and enjoy great modern island cuisine in a fun, relaxed atmosphere!

  • Join C & R Tire in fighting hunger in Arizona by donating up to $50 to AAFB through the month of September. When you do, C & R Tire will double your donation amount in a service work credit on your car or truck, up to $100. For example, if you donate $25 to AAFB, you will receive a $50 service work credit! Simply bring in your AAFB donation receipt of up to $50 before September 30 to any of C & R Tire’s 5 Valley locations to receive your service credit.

  • Participate in Arizona Hunger Action Week during September 12-18 and join other individuals, organizations, schools, and the faith community to fight hunger throughout Arizona through volunteering, food drives, and other great activities!

  • Take the Arizona SNAP Challenge (PDF), sponsored by the Arizona Community Action Association, where for 7 days during Arizona Hunger Action Week (September 12-18), you are asked to limit your total food purchases to the weekly budget of a typical SNAP (Food Stamp) participant, which is just $29!  Are you up for the challenge?  Visit their blog for more details!
