AAFB president and CEO Ginny Hildebrand appeared on Arizona PBS Channel 8’s Horizon program, alongside new St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance CEO Beverly Damore, to talk about tackling hunger in Arizona. A great primer on how our state food banks work and what is being done to combat hunger:



Fresh off the TV appearance, Ginny was not yet done! Congress has been working on the Farm Bill and budget reduction, and SNAP (Food Stamps) has become a target of unprecedented cuts, as highlighted in this Letter to the Arizona Republic by AAFB president and CEO Ginny Hildebrand.

Proposed SNAP Cuts Would Affect One in Six Arizonans

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The U.S. House Agriculture Committee has voted to recommend cutting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by $36 billion over 10 years, in line with GOP budget mandates to reduce spending. It also chose to cut only the former food stamp program, rather than trimming smaller amounts from other agriculture-related programs. Some have accused the House committee of "political showmanship."
